CADET150 CELEBRATIONS IN 2010

2010 marks the150th anniversary of the cadet forces in the UK.

Cadet150 is the working title of a tri-service project designed to celebrate and promote the success and values of the cadet movement in its 150th year.

The cadet forces include: the Army Cadet Force (ACF), Air Training Corps (ATC), Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and Sea Cadet Corps (SCC). In total these four organisations represent 130,000 young people (approximately 12-18 years old) and 25,000 adult volunteers of all backgrounds and abilities in over 3,000 sites across the UK.

The Cadet150 celebrations include a series of both tri-service and single service events around the UK throughout 2010 showcasing adventure, sports and cadet skills.

The aim is to: Establish the MoD's cadet forces as leading providers of voluntary, extra-curricular, educational activity for teenagers.

The official launch took place on 17 February including a visit Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh receiving 26 specially selected Cadet Ambassadors. Read the full story on the Cadet150 Launch

In July hundreds of youngsters from all three Services paraded past His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in London

Cadets, volunteers and their massed bands came to London from across the UK to march from Horse Guards Parade down The Mall to Buckingham Palace. The Prince of Wales took the salute at the Royal Review and the cadets then attended an exclusive garden party with members of the Royal Family to mark the occasion.
